There is a change to the Provision of First Aid training to comply with HSA requirements as of the 1st September 2017. The Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) are the new approved awarding body for first aid training in the workplace with the First Aid Responder course replacing the QQI Occupational First Aid course. Those who hold a QQI Occupational First Aid Certificate will refresh to First Aid Responder when their Cert Expires. 

This course is aimed for employees who wish to act as an occupational first aider for their company. Under the General Application Regulations 2007 (Part 7 Chapter 2 First Aid) requires companies to train a number of their employees to act as Occupational first aiders in the workplace.

The course is also suitable for those wishing to train as a first aider for emergency situations occurring in everyday life

Management of Actual & Potential Aggression   

This course is designed to give participants an understanding of disruptive and aggressive behaviour and equip them with the skills to risk assess, de-escalate situations, disengage from risky environments & behaviour, manage their personal safety, manage aggression and challenging behaviour, and follow good practice in their decision making regarding justification for actions taken. It is aimed for employees who work in challenging environments where they have a duty of care to others and themselves. It has been developed with person-centered delivery at its core. The core values of this training are that any actions should be proportionate, reasonable, and justified, that any physical intervention should only be used to avoid injury or harm, should be a last resort and safety is the paramount concern protecting the rights of the cared for and the safety of the carer.

This course is an interactive course where there is a healthy mix of theory and practical methods of training throughout the course. Although the course is designed for the workplace all learning outcomes can be applied to first aid situations in the home and sporting situations.

Brief Description: The aim of this course is to equip the candidate with the knowledge, skills and attitude to bring students to a level of competence of CFR for adults, infant and child Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use. Additionally to develop skills for the relief of foreign body airway obstruction as well as the administration of aspirin for cardiac chest pain.

As the course names suggests it is aimed at anyone in the community. As approximately 14 people die each day from sudden cardiac arrest it is important that people learn these potentially life - saving skills.

Course Content: This Emergency first Aid Training Course is suitable for anyone who might have to respond to emergencies in the home, workplace or in the community. This emergency first aid training course will also enable learners to act as a back up to qualified Occupational First Aiders in the workplace. Participants will gain the necessary skills and knowledge to use a range of practical basic first aid skills which will enable them to deal competently and confidently with common injuries and illnesses. Learners will also be trained in the basic techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and the action to take in the event of a person choking.
