Management of Actual & Potential Aggression   

This course is designed to give participants an understanding of disruptive and aggressive behaviour and equip them with the skills to risk assess, de-escalate situations, disengage from risky environments & behaviour, manage their personal safety, manage aggression and challenging behaviour, and follow good practice in their decision making regarding justification for actions taken. It is aimed for employees who work in challenging environments where they have a duty of care to others and themselves. It has been developed with person-centered delivery at its core. The core values of this training are that any actions should be proportionate, reasonable, and justified, that any physical intervention should only be used to avoid injury or harm, should be a last resort and safety is the paramount concern protecting the rights of the cared for and the safety of the carer.

This course is an interactive course where there is a healthy mix of theory and practical methods of training throughout the course. Although the course is designed for the workplace all learning outcomes can be applied to first aid situations in the home and sporting situations.

(PHECC) First Aid Responder (replacing QQI Occupational First Aid)

There is a change to the Provision of First Aid training to comply with HSA requirements as of the 1st September 2017. The Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) are the new approved awarding body for first aid training in the workplace with the First Aid Responder course replacing the QQI Occupational First Aid course. Those who hold a QQI Occupational First Aid Certificate will refresh to First Aid Responder when their Cert Expires. 

This course is aimed for employees who wish to act as an occupational first aider for their company. Under the General Application Regulations 2007 (Part 7 Chapter 2 First Aid) requires companies to train a number of their employees to act as Occupational first aiders in the workplace.

The course is also suitable for those wishing to train as a first aider for emergency situations occurring in everyday life

Course Outline:
QQI Level 5 Care of the Older Person 5N2706 has been designed to equip learners with the knowledge, skills and competence necessary to care effectively and empathetically for the older person in a range of settings. The learners will gain a broad understanding of age related issues and the supports and services available to older people in Ireland. Learners will consider the various needs that must be addressed when providing care to older people with varying levels of dependence, including end of life care.

Learners will explore the importance of good communication with their own team, the person they are caring for and their families. It is intended that this module will help to prepare learners for employment in nursing homes or as a healthcare assistants working as part of multi-disciplinary teams working for public or private home-care providers.

Course Content:

  • Unit 1: Ageing Process
  • Unit 2: Working with the Older Person
  • Unit 3: Caring for the Older Person with Specific Needs
  • Unit 4: Care Settings.
Entry Requirements: 
  • Level 4 Certificate, or Leaving Cert, and/or equivalent qualifications, or relevant life and work experience.
  • Students must be working/ or on work experience in the Healthcare Sector/ or have experience working with older people as assignments will require learners to draw upon practical experience.
  • Good level of English, written and spoken.

Qualification Achieved:

on successful completion of the course, participants will receive a QQI level 5 Care of the Older Person

This is a component certificate: Care of the Older Person 5N2706 is one of 8 modules that can lead to a level 5 Major Award in Health Service Skills 5M3782, Healthcare Support 5M4339, or Nursing Studies 5M4325. 5N2706 is an optional module of these major awards
